A Conversation With You #1

A Conversation With You #1

Dear You,

Thank you for stepping into my world - whether you’ve been here before or are just arriving now.
Every painting I create begins long before the first brushstroke meets the canvas.
It begins with a feeling, a tension, a fleeting inner movement that asks to be seen. My work is my way of listening to those whispers and translating them into colour, form, and gesture.

I’ve always believed that a painting is not complete until someone stands before it. Until you stand before it. Because something powerful happens in that moment - a kind of meeting between inner worlds. You bring your own stories, your own memories and emotions, and suddenly the work no longer belongs only to me. It becomes a shared space, a soft intersection of your truth and mine.

My roots in music - years spent at the piano, writing songs, exploring the delicate architecture of sound - still live inside every composition I paint. I approach each piece as if it were a silent melody: some tones bold and resonant, others soft, fragile, barely there. But all of them real.

What matters most to me is the quiet moment when you encounter the work - perhaps unexpectedly - and feel a shift within yourself. A small breath. A sense of being seen or understood, even if only for a second. That moment is the heart of my practice. It is the reason I return to the canvas again and again.

If my art has found a place in your home, your hands, or simply in your thoughts for a moment, thank you. Your presence in this space means more than you might realize.

I hope that when you meet my paintings - whether on a screen, in a studio, during exhbition or in the soft light of your own room - you feel invited to pause. To rest. To recognize something of yourself. To feel gently held.

With warmth and gratitude,
Katya Somisen
